Occupational health, safety and environment is at the heart of business activities in various sectors of the economy. Employers are also mandated, by law, to provide a safe work environment for their employees, as far as is resonably practicable.

This course covers the basic and advanced aspects of occupational health and safety.

MANDATORY HSE LEVEL 1
• Introduction to Health and Safety in the workplace. Definitions of terms: Accident/incidents, safety, health, environment, hazards, risks
• Causes of accidents, Cost of accidents, employors' and workers' roles in accident prevention
• Workplace hazards and identification, Unsafe acts, Unsafe Behaviours and incident reporting
• Control of hazards: Elimination, Engineering, Administration, Mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE)
• Good House keeping
• Company hse policies
• Emergency situations and how to handle them, emergency response techniques
• Nigeria Health and Safety Legislations and policies, the Factory act of 2004
• Safety Signs and symbols
• Group Work, question and answer session

SUPERVISORY HSE LEVEL 2

• Hazards Management and Job Hazards analysis (JHA)

• Risk assessment

• How to conduct tool box meeting and pep talk

• Environmental awareness and waste management

• Introduction to basic first aid and cpr (cardio pulmonary resuscitation)

• Fire prevention and fire fighting

• Lock out Tag Out (LOTO) Work Procedures

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Question and answer session

PROFESSIONAL HSE LEVEL 3

• Occupational health, safety and environmental management system (HSE-MS)

• Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)and Job safety analysis (JSA)

• Environmental Management Practices (EMP, EIA, waste management, environmental pollution)

• Risk Assessment and applications (Practical Site Project)

• Fire Safety applications (Practical Session)

• Introduction to Permit to Work (PTW) System

• Crisis Management and Security Awareness

• Basic First Aid and applications (Practical Session)

• Accident Investigation and Reporting

• Multiple choice assessment test

Candidates would be assessed by:

• a written examination of 100 questions to be answered in 90 minutes;

• practical assessment to be carried out by a WSO approved assessor, and

• would be required to demonstrate that they have near perfect understanding of HSE and can fit into any organizational structure as frontline (beginning) HSE Officers.

There are no specific barriers, in terms of academic qualifications, skills or experience to entry to the general and advanced HSE programme.

The programme is open to everyone, irrespective of academic discipline or background.

N55,000 (If you want the WSO certificates) or N45,000 (If you want the OSHA standard Hsetrain Int'l certificates)

The fee covers: registration form, training course manual, refreshment, examination and certificates

Installmental payment is allowed. However, payment should be completed before candidate can seat for the certification examination

Candidates who successfully complete the programme will receive any of the following certifications (depending on amount paid): internationally recognized hse 1,2 and 3 certificates directly from the World Safety Organization, with a global seal of recognition. Or OSHA standard Hsetrain Int'l certificates endorsed by hse certification bodies in Nigeria.

Practicals are conducted, via live demonstrations, field inspections or video simulation, for certain aspects of the course such as:

• first aid and cpr at work,

• risk assessment,

• fire fighting with use of fire extinguisher,

• Job hazard analysis

Successful participants are eligible to request for additional certificate(s) for each of the practical aspects of the course, as an added advantage. Such participants shall pay a token for each additional certificate.

Yes, the certificates are internationally recognized. The syllabus as set by the National Industrial Safety Council of Niger (NISCN) satisfies the OSHA and the World Safety Organization (WSO), USA standards for hse 123 training globally.
